The Lumiere brothers photography center

The Lumiere brothers photography center and the company «Gazprom Neft» represent a large-scale photography exhibition. The Conquest of the Russian Arctic. The heir of the avant-garde Jacob Khalip, dedicated to the past and present Arctic studies in Russia. The basis of the exposition will be a unique photo essay filmed by the classic Russian photographer Yakov Khalip during the expedition of 1938 to rescue the crew of Ivan Papanin from the world's first drifting station «North Pole-1». After the images depicting the Arctic epic flew to postcards throughout the Union, in cooperation with the artist Alexander Rodchenko, was made a unique photo album, which became a discovery in the artistic environment. The dramatic and heroic moments of the history of the conquest of the Arctic quickly became a classic of Soviet and world photography. For successful work in the Arctic expedition, Jacob Khalip was the first of all photojournalists in the USSR to be awarded the Order of the Badge of Honor.
