Ministry of Defense is improving the system of troops basing
The Russian Defense Ministry is developing the military infrastructure in the Arctic, which allows the troops stationed in the region to function effectively. This was reported by Sergei Shoigu, Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation.
"The Ministry pays primary attention to strengthening the country's defense capabilities in the Arctic region. The Northern Fleet has been entrusted with the majority of tasks to solve this issue," saidMr Shoigu on Thursday at a meeting of the military department's collegium.
According to him, "military infrastructure is being developed, which allows the troops stationed in this zone to function effectively." "Administrative and residential complexes have been built on Arctic islands; the system of basing in the Arctic is being improved. The creation of comfortable service and living conditions for servicemen is under special control," he has stressed.
It is planned to complete construction of a residential complex of eight houses for 486 apartments in Gadzhievo by the end of the year, shared the Minister. Thus, the issue of providing service housing to submariners of the garrison will be completely solved.
"The construction of the Temp airfield on the Novosibirsk islands archipelago is about to be completed soon. A military camp is being built for the third air defense division in the settlement of Tiksi in the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia)," said Mr Shoigu.
According to him, this year the Northern Fleet plans to construct 147 buildings. "As of now, 64 facilities have been commissioned," the minister said. He has also noted that the world's northernmost 25-meter indoor swimming pool has been built on Alexandra Land island.
