“Russia is going to step up scientific presence in the Arctic and will conduct 100 expeditions per year by 2031”, said Sergey Donskoy, Minister of Natural Resources and Ecology of the Russian Federation before the Eastern Economic Forum.

Besides Russia is implementing the project of self moving ice-resistant platform. There is joint work with Russian Federal Service for Hydrometeorology and Environmental Monitoring on preparation of monitoring network modernization in the Arctic. Nowadays 70 main weather stations are operating in the Arctic, more than 60% of them are hard to reach.

“Certainly number of stations must increase. We cooperate in this matter with such private companies as “Rosneft” and “Gazprom”, military institutions also participate in this work. We haven’t reach the stations number of the Soviet Union but are aiming for it. We construct them as automatic ones and place on the drilling platforms”, added minister.

Last years Russia began to develop the Northern territories including hydrocarbon production, Northern Sea route which is becoming an alternative to traditional way from Europe to Asia.
