First hypersonic exercises have been conducted in the Arctic

Several MiG-31BMs aircrafts have completed their first hypersonic weapons interdiction exercises in the Arctic region. Pacific Fleet fighters destroyed targets imitating a bomber with hypersonic missiles. The attack on it was conducted from a height of almost 20 thousand meters and at a speed of 2.5 Mach. The conditional enemy was succesfully destroyed.

On April 6, Sergei Shoigu, Minister of Defence of the Russian Federation, has announced the start of scheduled inspections in the Armed Forces based on the results of the winter training period. A total of 4,048 exercises of various scales will be conducted during the April. 101 training ranges and 520 training and material base facilities will be used during this period . According to  Sergei Shoigu, maneuvers will take place in the territory of all military districts and the Northern Fleet, as well as in the regions of the Far North, the Kuril Islands and Kamchatka. A commission of the General Staff will inspect the exercizes, which will be held in the eastern military district. The main exercises of that region will take place at the Tsugol and Sergeevsky training ranges. "I demand to ensure the high quality of control exercises and safety during the movement of military echelons and military equipment," said Sergei Shoigu.

- Arctic is the closest to US part of Russia, so we have to stay in full alert, - told Izvestia сolonel Igor Malikov, honored test pilot. - Flights in the Far North require special training. The navigation is different there because of the proximity to the pole, so you have to be very careful. If the navigation complex malfunctions, you can get lost. In addition, the weather changes quickly in those latitudes, so the pilot must be able to work in any weather conditions. In other respects, there is no difference in piloting and using weapons. Again, the North requires special servicing of the aircraft. It can be compared to the way you start a car during the winter: you have to warm it up first.
