A large-scale environmental expedition has started in the Arctic
A group of Russian specialists from the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS) will depart to the Big Norilsk expedition that will take place in Taymir region. They will study the environmental situation of the Arctic territories. Such an announcement was published on the official site on Nornickel.
“The most important outcome of the expedition is an appropriate assessment of the current environmental state. Besides, it will start a formation of new approaches to the economic management of the Arctic”, - shared Andrey Grachev, Vice President for Federal and Regional Programs at Nornickel.
The units of the expedition will comprose of experts from 11 research institutes of Norilsk, Yakutsk, Irkutsk, Krasnoyarsk, Tomsk and Barnaul. The scientists will study the surface waters, soil and bottom sedments, as well as flora, fauna and perrenial soils.
The season of archeological expeditions had already been opened. A group of scientists from the Arctic Scientific Research organization is studying the Nyrymposlor burial ground in Priuralsky district, while the second one unit examines the whole Priuralsky and Shuryshkarsky districts. They will also search for Ob towns of the sixteenth to nineteenth centuries.
