Chilingarov thanked citizens for supporting the initiative to give Norilsk the title of «City of Labor Valor»

Assigning Norilsk the title «City of Labor Valor» was supported by thousands of Russians. President of the Interregional Public Organization «Association of Polar Explorers» Arthur Chilingarov said that such support from the citizens is very important.

More than 48 thousand people have already taken part in voting in support of the initiative. During the Great Patriotic War Norilsk was engaged in supplying the army. At that time metallurgical enterprises exceeded the norm of nickel supply several times and by the end of the war they produced about 60% of all the Soviet ore. Mining and processing of minerals in the Norilsk ore district was equated to service at the front.

The enterprises where most of the townspeople work are still in operation today. Companies, producing non-ferrous and precious metals, occupy leading positions in Russia and in the world.
Let's remind, Artur Chilingarov is a member of Russian organizing committee «Victory» and one of the first who supported the initiative of city council of veterans of war and labor to give Norilsk a title «City of Labor Valor».

"I am sure that Norilsk and the people of Norilsk are rightly deserving of such an honorary title. Today the city is the largest center of nonferrous metallurgy in Russia. We all need to understand that any civic initiatives reach the leadership of the country. I am glad that the desire to give Norilsk the title of «City of Labor Valor» came from both residents and deputies. Such big support from Russians is very important for the municipal and federal authorities", - told Chilingarov.

The petition for the final decision on granting the honorary title was sent to President of Russia Vladimir Putin.
