Arctic ports have the highest growth of cargo turnover

Seaports of the Arctic basin showed the highest growth rate of cargo turnover in Russia - plus 3.3 percent. In the country as a whole, it has decreased by 0.2 percent since January compared to the same period of 2021. 

The volume of transshipment of dry cargo fell to 15.6 million tons, having decreased by 4.1 per cent. The growth of cargo turnover in the port of Murmansk slowed down, remaining at the level of the previous month - 32.4 million tons, although in June Murmansk showed an increase of 1.4 percent.

Cargo turnover in Sabetta port increased by 3.2 percent to 16.8 million tons. The month before the growth rate was 4.6 percent. Varandey port is still the champion in terms of growth rates: its cargo turnover grew by 28.2% - to 3.4 million tons. And here, too, the growth in June was higher - by 33.4 percent. In this case Arkhangelsk decreased the cargo turnover by 18.2% - down to 1.4 million tons, while the previous month the decrease was 17.3%.

The ports of Kandalaksha and Dudinka show high growth rates - by 34.6% and 16.3% respectively.

In general, the statistics shows a slowdown in the growth of cargo turnover in the ports of the Arctic. However, experts believe that the figures are not critical, because the main commodity - oil - provides loading of the Arctic ports and stably holds its level.

Experts are only concerned about the situation in Arkhangelsk, which is a port of supply, through which construction materials for the Arctic infrastructure go.
