The X International Forum Arctic: Today and the Future is opening in St. Petersburg
Today, on December 10, the X International Forum Arctic: Today and the Future, a key public event dedicated to the development of the Arctic region and discussion of its current agenda, is opening in St. Petersburg.
The Forum will be held with the support and participation of the Federation Council, State Duma, Ministry of Development of the Far East and Arctic, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia and other relevant federal ministries and departments, regional authorities, commercial companies and research organizations, mass media. It is organized by the Association of Polar Explorers, Interregional Public Organization.
The business program of the Forum will last for two days. The first day will be opened by the Priorities of public policy in the Arctic zone of Russia plenary session. Ways of development of the Russian Arctic will be discussed by representatives of government, business, public and academic circles.
Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Igor Ananskikh, Deputy Chairman of the State Commission on Arctic Development Vladimir Panov, First Deputy Minister for Development of the Far East and the Arctic Alexander Krutikov, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Alexei Besrozvannykh will take seats in the presidium of the session.
Nikolay Kharitonov, the Chairman of the Committee on Regional Policy and Problems of the North and the Far East, Grigory Ledkov, the President of the Association of Indigenous Peoples of the North, Siberia and the Far East, and Andrey Grachev, the Vice-President of MMC Norilsk Nickel, will join the discussion via videoconference.
Artur Chilingarov, President of the Association of Polar Explorers, Special Representative of the Russian President for International Cooperation in the Arctic and Antarctic will act as a moderator of the plenary session.
The plenary session of the second day will be devoted to the regional aspect and will focus on the role of Arctic regions of Russia in shaping the future of a strategically important macro-region.
Totally, 28 business events that can be attended personally or via videconference mode will be held during two days of the Forum. The discussion agenda will reflect the goals and main directions of the Basic Principles of State Policy of the Russian Federation in the Arctic until 2035 and the Strategy for the Development of the Arctic Zone of Russia and National Security for the period until 2035.
The block of discussion events will support the exhibition program, which includes an extensive thematic exposition. It will demonstrate the achievements of the Arctic regions and the largest companies working in the Russian Arctic.
The outcome of the Forum will result as a resolution with the initiatives of all the participants. It will be sent to the profile committees of the Federation Council, the State Duma, the Government of the Russian Federation, the State Commission for Arctic Development to improve legislation and state regulation in the field of sustainable development of the Russian Arctic zone.
