Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed a decree according to which the Northern Fleet will finally be equated to a military district starting January 1, 2021.
"To consider the Northern Fleet an interspecific strategic territorial association of the Russian Armed Forces, carrying out the tasks of a military district," declares the presidential decree, which was published and signed on December 21.
