Russian scientists are planning to create floating airports in the Arctic
Russia is considering the possibility of creating floating airfields for the Arctic zone. This issue is already being worked out by Nevskoye Design Bureau.
These platforms will become centers that solve the issues of providing all spheres of activity of the Russian Federation and its partners in the Arctic zone. Today the bureau is performing pre-project works on the design of the airfields.
The bureau's employees point out that the floating platforms for aircraft landings should enable aircrafts to land in any weather conditions in the region: the airfields can be used by transport, military and rescue aviation. Thus, such a development will serve as a base for the development of Arctic gas fields, ensure safe operation of the Northern Sea Route and will be used for solving the tasks set by the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation.
