Nornickel will again support the Arctic: Present and Future International Forum as a General Partner

MMC Norilsk Nickel will become the general partner of the XI International Forum Arctic: Today and the Future that will take place on December 2-3, 2021 in St. Petersburg.

"Participation in the Forum is important for the company. The event provides an opportunity to meet state authorities, international organizations, representatives of science and business, and duscuss the primary and strategic aspects of the development of the Arctic zone of the Russian Federation and pay special attention to improving the lifequality in the Arctic," said Andrey Grachev, Vice President for Federal and Regional Programs at MMC Norilsk Nickel.

"Nornickel is the world's largest producer of high-quality nickel and palladium, and one of the world's most significant producers of platinum and copper. It also produces cobalt, rhodium, silver, gold, iridium, ruthenium, selenium, tellurium and sulfur. Nornickel's core activities include prospecting, exploration, extraction, concentration and processing of mineral resources, as well as production, marketing and sale of non-ferrous and precious metals.

In Russia, Nornickel's main production units are: Polar Division of MMC Norilsk Nickel, Kola Mining and Metallurgical Company JSC, and Bystrinsky Mining and Processing Plant located in Gazimursky Zavodsky District of Trans-Baikal Territory. Norilsk Nickel has its own global network of representative and sales offices in Russia, the UK, China, the USA and Switzerland.

Nornickel’s development strategy is aimed at unwavering adherence to the principles of social and environmental responsibility is a prerequisite. In particular, Nornickel aims to become an industry leader in terms of the rate of atmospheric emissions reduction.

The Company implements measures to ensure transparent and efficient emission management across its operations, and to engage with stakeholders, the Russian government, and partners to comply with responsible and sustainable practices for air protection.

To achieve its strategic goals, Nornickel plans to reduce the absolute level of SO2 emissions by 85% in the Kola Division in 2021 and by 90% in the Polar Division in 2025, maintaining other air emissions at one of the lowest levels in the industry. In addition, the company has planned to introduce an atmospheric air monitoring system to assess and ensure air quality.

The strategic development plan provides for the transformation of Nornickel into the most environmentally friendly enterprise in the industry through the implementation of the Sulfur Project in the Polar Division and environmental measures at Kola MMC. The Company has approved a comprehensive environmental protection project, provisionally named Sulfur Program 2.0. This is an unprecedented environmental initiative that is being implemented in the main operational regions.
