MegaFon has supported X International Forum Arctic: Today and the Future, acting as a partner of the "The digital economy in the Arctic: myth or reality?" working session.
CEO of the Company Gevorg Vermishyan will join this section as a speaker, where he will tell on the progress of Arctic Connect project. The first stage of marine research was completed in November. It included profile observations with remote geophysical eco-friendly methods. They had been conducted on the sections of the future communication line route in the waters of six seas. As a result, the research vessel of Rosgeologiya has passed the most difficult sections of a total length of 6500 km.
The goal of the project is to connect the continents where 85% of the population lives with a data cable, thereby providing the fastest signal with the minimal delay. The project is implemented by MegaFon together with the Finnish infrastructure operator Cinia Oy. Memorandum on the establishment of an international consortium was signed on June 6, 2019.
The launch of Arctic Connect project with 200 ТBps bandwidth will help to cope with the growing volumes of global traffic. The sidelines of the main will allow providing quality communication to the consumers in the Arctic and the Far East, including enterprises of the fuel and energy complex. It will contribute to the social and economic development of the region.
