Large-scale Arctic exercises of the Northern Fleet have started in Murmansk Region
The Northern Fleet of the Russian Navy has launched large-scale tactical exercises that cover the entire Russian Arctic.
The maneuvers began in the Murmansk region. For the first time the Northern Fleet conducted them in a separate military district.
The servicemen have already worked out the tactics of repulsing an attack by a simulated enemy. The aerial threat was suppressed by air defenses, and the indicated enemy on the ground was blocked by strikes from Grad multiple-launch rocket systems. At close range the military used the tanks.
"The head of the exercise will later evaluate the results of the maneaurs. In advance I can state that units coped with the task successfully," the Zvezda TV channel quotes Denis Kurilo, commander of a separate motorized rifle brigade of the Northern Fleet.
Earlier, the combat swimmers of the special anti-subversive forces detachment of the Northern Fleet conducted exercises jointly with the Arctic expeditionary force. The soldiers were tasked with practicing the actions necessary to protect and defend the forces while stationed on an unprotected raid in the Arctic.
