Russian scientists have created a "super steel" for work in the Arctic

Scientists at the State Scientific Center "Central Research Institute of Engineering Technologies" and the Ural Steel company have developed a technology for the industrial production of flat steel from new steel grades.
It is reported that the development of "super steel" began in the spring; its material and technology are needed for use in projects for the production of liquefied natural gas and can be used in the extreme north.

In terms of their characteristics, new steel grades surpass existing analogues of Russian and foreign production, and at the same time, they can reduce costs by a quarter in the manufacture of equipment for LNG.

In the fall, melting was successfully carried out and an experimental batch of sheets with a thickness of 10 to 50 mm was rolled, and the modes of their heat treatment were checked. Currently, scientists are conducting research and testing of metallurgical quality, welding, technological and service characteristics of an experimental batch of flat steel.

In world practice, such metal is used for the manufacture tanks and equipment for LNG.
On November 22, the head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade Denis Manturov announced that a testing ground for oil and gas and mining equipment for the Arctic would be created in Murmansk in 2023.
