Kamaz had successfully tested the unmanned trucks in the Arctic
The unmanned trucks had been successfully tested in the Vostochno-Messoyakhskoye field on the Gyda Peninsula of the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous District. This was reported by the press service of Gazprom Neft PJSC.
The trucks, adapted for operation in difficult Arctic conditions, are a joint project of Gazprom Neft and KAMAZ Group of Companies, implemented with the support of the Government of Yamal.
The vehicles have demonstrated the ability to move along the specified routes with high accuracy, exchange information through duplicate communication systems, recognize obstacles within second and predict the trajectory of movement based on current road situation. Their movement was monitored from the control center equipped at the Vostochno-Messoyakhskoye field.
During the course of the Arctic test drive, KAMAZ trucks covered 2.5 thousand km without any accidents. The conducted tests have shown that KAMAZ with driver, because they make no mistakes even on the difficult routes, in conditions of low temperatures, blizzards and poor visibility; they are also 50% safer and allow 10-15% reduction in freight costs.
The main aim of the tests was to confirm the potential effectiveness of unmanned vehicles, which will provide an opportunity to improve cargo safety and optimize the supply of remote regions.
