Arctic's nuclear rehabilitation plan will be approved by the summer
The Russian government will have to approve a plan to rehabilitate the Arctic zone of Russia from flooded and sunken sites with spent nuclear fuel within a month. The authority to regulate and rehabilitate the territory is given to Rosatom, as follows from the draft presidential decree, published on the federal portal of draft regulations.
“Approve the plan on rehabilitation of the Arctic zone of the Russian Federation from flooded and sunken objects with spent nuclear fuel and radioactive wastes for 2020-2029 within a month”, says the text.
The Cabinet of Ministers will also have to provide additional funding for the costs, associated with the implementation of the decree, by making adjustments to the state program “Development of the nuclear energy complex”.
