A fleet of Russian tankers to support warships will be established in the Arctic
The Russian Ministry of Defense had reported to Izvestia newspaper on the upcoming establishment of the tankers fleet of project 23130 in the Arctic.
“Each vessel that is going to the Mediterranean Sea, the Indian Ocean or Cuba is usually accompanied by a tanker. And uses them to refuel every three or four days", said Admiral Valentin Selivanov, former Chief of the Main Staff of the Navy.
It is noted that this fleet also provide resources for Arctic coastal infrastructure. Each tanker will be able to carry up to 3 thousand tons of fuel oil, 2.5 thousand tons of diesel fuel, 500 tons of aviation kerosene, 150 tons of lubricating oil, up to 1000 tons of fresh water, and 100 tons of food and equipment.
