Ukraine announced plans to develop the Arctic
Arctic topic aroused interest in Kiev. This statement was made by the country's ambassador to Norway, Vyacheslav Yatsyuk, during his visit to Spitsbergen archipelago.
«Now Ukraine is not involved in the Arctic. But we start to think that country can become an arctic player», — he said.
According to Yatsyuk, one of the goals of his visit was to confirm Ukraine’s intentions to start cooperation with Norway specifically on Arctic issues. In November 2017, Prime Minister of Ukraine Vladimir Groysman, during his visit to Canada, said that Kiev could cooperate with Ottawa on the issue of the development of the Arctic.
«Our experience, combined with the experience of Canadian partners, can bring results. We can start a new page of building our relationship and we want to be reliable partners», — he noted.
