The nuclear-powered icebreaker "Arctic" should go for testing in the ice next winter

The universal nuclear icebreaker “Arctic” of the project 22220 should go on tests in ice conditions in the winter. It was announced by the head of Rosatom Alexey Likhachev.

«We are glad to welcome you here aboard the icebreaker "Arctic", we believe that there are a few months left before the transfer of this icebreaker to us for testing in ice», - he said during the constituent meeting of the public council of the Northern Sea Route, which took place within the framework of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum.

Project 22220 universal nuclear-powered icebreakers should become the most powerful icebreaking vessels in the world and provide year-round navigation in the western sector of the Arctic. Now three similar vessels are under the construction at the Baltic Shipyard in St. Petersburg: the Arctic, Siberia and Ural.
