The land territory of the Arctic was expanded by eight regions of Yakutia
Eight more regions of the republic were included in the structure of the Arctic Zone of Russia. The relevant changes to the “On the Land Territories of the Arctic Zone of the Russian Federation” decree were introduced by President Vladimir Putin. Now the Abyisky, Verkhnekolymsky, Verkhoyansky, Zhigansky, Momsky, Olenyoksky, Srednekolymsky and Eveno-Bytantaysky districts are part of the land areas of the Russian Arctic. All of them are fully or partially located beyond the Arctic Circle.
«It has come true what the republic were waiting for many years! Now programs for the development of the Arctic will be implemented here. I am grateful to the President for the support, and I am sure that this decision will help us develop our Arctic at a faster pace», - the head of the republic Aisen Nikolayev wrote.
Earlier, the territory of the Arctic zone included only five regions of the republic: Allaikhovsky, Anabarsky, Bulunsky, Nizhnekolymsky and Ust-Yansky regions, located along the coast of the Arctic Ocean.
