The construction project of the icebreaker "Leader" will start in March
The Governmental order to build the Leader icebreaker at the Zvezda shipyard will be released in March. Rosneft will start financing the development of the project not later than March 15. It was reported by Yury Borisov, Deputy Prime-minister of the Russian Federation.
«The Governmental order will be released in March. We decided not to wait for it. Not later than March 15 Rosneft will start financing the development of the project, design documents to the Iceberg design bureau by loan proceeds, in order to construct the ship on time», - TASS quotes Borisov.
According to him, the creation of dry dock, where the Leader icebreaker will be built, will be finished by 2020. The Baltic Shipyard also claimed the construction of the icebreaker, but it doesn’t have necessary capabilities for that, as Borisov said.
Before, a representative of the shipbuilding complex informed TASS that Zvezda shipyard was ready to accept an order of the Leader icebreaker with a capacity of 120 MW. Krylov Central Research Institute and Iceberg Central Design Bureau are involved with the project of the Leader icebreaker for the Russian Nuclear Navy.
It is supposed that the icebreaker will be able to pass on ice up to four meters thick that means it will be able to move freely throughout the Arctic. The creation of the Leader icebreaker will help to provide all-season and all-weather work on the Northern Sea Route both on the western route and in the east, for year-round hydrocarbon export.
