The accumulated environmental damage is being cleared in the territory of abandoned shift camps in Yamal

The cleaning of contaminated areas of the Kharasavey gas field has begun in Yamal. Inventory of the property has already been taken in abandoned shift camp on the Kara Sea coast. It was reported by the press-office of the Government of the region.

Initially, the camp was designed for living of 25 workers. For comfort, a diesel power station and a water supply system are installed there. During the cleaning, 32 crumbling buildings were identified; five of them have already been demolished. A crane truck, an excavator, a dump truck, a bulldozer and a loader were delivered to the village for cleaning.

The clearing of territories takes place within the framework of the comprehensive plan of the Yamal Government. According to the program, works are conducted by the Russian Arctic Development Center, and in three years specialists will clean up an area of 70 hectares.

In addition to the area of the Kharasavey gas field, cleaning work will take place on Vilkitsky Island this summer. Also this season ecological expedition to the Bely island has already been scheduled.
