The USA: Claim of Russia concerning widening of continental shelf borders conforms all norms of international law

At the beginning of the August Russia filled a reconsidered application for continental shelf borders widening due to affiliation of Lomonosov Ridge and formations of the continent. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation noticed that Moscow hopes that the claim will be considered this autumn though this procedure is planned on spring 2016 according to RIA Novosti.

From 2001 Russia has been pretending on the part of the shelf including Lomonosov and Mendeleyev Ridges which is rich for hydrocarbon deposits but earlier the claim was declined because of the lack of information. Reconsidered application included underwater area 1,2 km2 in area.

The USA recognized that Claim of Russia concerning widening of continental shelf borders conforms all norms of international law. It was announced by representative of the US State Department. He noticed that the same application was made by Danmark and Canada. Considering of such applications takes place in concordance with UN Law of the Sea Convention of 1982 which regulate use of World Ocean and its resources.
