Russian military satellites will provide high-speed communications in the Arctic
Until the end of 2019, the entire Russian group in the Arctic will have access to high-speed information channels. It was reported by the Ministry of Defense.
According to it, polar communication will begin to work when the Meridian-M satellites are launched into orbit. This upgrade will increase the capacity of the satellite communication system and expand its accessibility area throughout the Northern Sea Route.
In addition, the formation of the orbital grouping of the Blagovest military communications will be completed by the end of the year - it will consist of four spacecraft.
Providing communications in the Arctic is a complex technical task. Most modern satellite systems don’t operate north of the 70th parallel, and the Northern Sea Route is located in these latitudes.
