Foreign cruise ships can visit the Arctic easier

A list of ports or points where foreign touristic ships will be allowed to embark and disembark passengers may appear in Russia. The State Duma is going to consider this bill in the first reading at the current plenary week.

According to the Parliamentary Newspaper, the government bill is aimed at developing tourism in the Arctic and the Far East. If the bill is adopted, special list of ports and points where foreign touristic ships will be allowed to embark and disembark passengers will appear. This measure should exclude foreign guests from entering the territory where Russian defense and security facilities are located. At the same time the bill provides the opportunity for foreign cruise liners to go to ports and points without disembarking.  As Deputy Minister of Economic Development and Trade Sergei Galkin explained during the discussion of the initiative, the main goal of the bill was to create opportunities for more flexible formation of touristic products, including for foreign ships.

«Amendments to the legislation will be a source of additional influx of tourists, they will help to activate the capabilities of the Arctic», — the Parliamentary Newspaper quotes Galkin.

The State Duma Committee on Security and Anti-Corruption supported the bill and recommended it for adoption on first reading.
