The research vessel Akademik Fedorov sailed to the Arctic from the port of St. Petersburg

The research vessel Akademik Fedorov set sail on the programme of the 65th Russian Antarctic expedition. Details were reported in the press service of the Arctic and Antarctic Research Institute (FGBU "AARI").

The vessel sailed from the Commercial Sea Port on January 14. “Academician Fedorov” must deliver to the Arctic participants of the seasonal and wintering expeditions, food supplies, scientific equipment and building materials.

The voyage of Akademik Fedorov will last 134 days. The vessel will visit three oceans: Atlantic, Indian and South.

During the voyage, cargo will be delivered to Progress station for work on creating a new wintering complex at Vostok station and for ensuring the operation of Progress station in wintering mode. They must also complete seasonal work and change the wintering staff.

In addition, seasonal studies at the Oasis Banger and Molodezhnaya field bases will be completed, polar explorers will be taken aboard, seasonal work will be completed and the staff of Mirny station will be changed. In addition, Akademik Fedorov will take on board the AN-2 aircraft, which took part in aerogeophysical operations.

The cargo will be delivered to Novolazarevskaya station, the expedition participants will also be changed. Another task assigned to the vessel is the removal of waste from the Antarctic from stations and field bases.

After completing the tasks, the vessel will return to Petersburg through the port of Cape Town. The return is scheduled for May 27.
