In St. Petersburg, the business program of the VIII International Forum "Arctic: Today and the Future" ended.

Within the framework of the forum, the Association of Polar Explorers signed agreements with the Association of Indigenous Peoples of the North, Siberia and the Far East and the Concern Almaz-Antey.

The topics of the Forum discussions covered all areas and current aspects of the development of the Russian Arctic. The discussion was carried through the prism of adopting a law on the development of the Arctic zone of the Russian Federation, mentoring and educating the young generation, developing volunteering and international non-governmental interaction.

The forum brought together all parties interested in the development of the Arctic, who were able to discuss important and sensitive issues in a constructive manner. "This makes it possible to say that the legislative framework regulating activities in the Russian Arctic will be improved," said Yulia Zvorykina, director of the Autonomous non-profit organization Institute for Research and Expertise of Vnesheconombank.

A public exchange of views on this topic set the tone for the entire discussion program of the forum. The draft law on the development of the Arctic zone of the Russian Federation must be finalized in such a way that the interests of all participants in the socio-economic processes in the Far North are taken into account. That is why it has not yet been adopted by the State Duma. This was noticed by the first deputy chairman of the State Duma Committee on Regional Policy and the Problems of the North and Far East, Valentina Pivnenko. "We want the draft law on the development of the Arctic zone to be worked out to the maximum and considerate to interests of all those interested in the strong Russian Arctic," Pivnenko said.

On the site of the VIII International Forum "Arctic: Today and the Future" the IPO "Association of Polar Explorers" Board Meeting During was held. During the meeting, issues of the organization’s work in 2018, its regional offices and plans for 2019 were tabled for discussion."Opening the meeting, I would like to thank you all for the important and hard work that you do every day for the future of Russia. We are proud of you and are making every effort to fulfill your instructions and to convey to the authorities’ proposals for the development of the Arctic," said President of the Association of Polar Explorers Artur Chilingarov.

He was supported by the head of the regional branch of the Association in the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia), Vladimir Chlenov. "We need to show our work and share our vision of the development of the Arctic. We know what the North is, how people live and work there, and in what direction the Arctic should be developed. Our advice and recommendations allow the federal authorities to develop such legislation that is really beneficial for the Arctic," he said.

At the end of the forum, the annual results of the Arctic agenda will be summed up and a public Resolution for 2018 will be issued in March of the next year. Submission of proposals for the Resolution began in June.
