Section description
Accumulated environmental damage and industrial waste have a negative impact on the Arctic nature. This problem is of key importance because of the susceptibleness of the Arctic ecosystem to negative human impact. Problem of hazardous waste utilization and accumulated environmental damage mitigation is one of the priorities of state politics in Russia. It is mentioned in the “Strategy of the Arctic zone development up to 2020”. Working session will be dedicated to discussion of possible ways of waste recycling development, measures aimed at accumulated environmental damage mitigation in the Arctic with participation of authorities, state corporations and business structures.
Topics for discussion
- Creation an effective system of waste management in the Arctic regions;
- Implementation of technologies for minimizing and recycling of waste products in the industries of mining in the Arctic zone (oil production, mining and steel industry);
- The elimination of accumulated damage from industrial and military activities in the Arctic zone;
- State policy in the sphere of radioactive waste management in the Arctic.
